Seth Greenberg among the judges for Hokie Idol
Doing philanthropic work is a big part of our organization. We choose to donate to the New River Valley Free Clinic because we wanted to see our efforts make a difference in our community. Commitment to community is another value we hold in high esteem. By raising money throughout the year, we help benefit those people in the New River Valley area that are not fortunate enough to be able to afford insurance for the high costs of medical care.
Hokie IdolHokie Idol is our main philanthropic event every year. It takes place in the spring, but takes all year to plan. Hokie Idol is very similar to the popular TV show American Idol where there are rounds of auditions held in order to narrow down the field and find the best singers Virginia Tech has to offer. The final event is held in Burruss Auditorium where the contestants sing a song and are judge by a celebrity panel, as well as the Virginia Tech campus. The audience votes for their favorites and the winner is then crowned Virginia Tech's Hokie Idol by the panel of judges. The winner goes on to audition for the show American Idol paid for by the chapter. All proceeds from the show go to our philanthropic organization.
Relay for LifeRelay for Life is one of the largest events that happens every year at Virginia Tech. In recent years Tech has held one of the top 5 fundraising collegiate Relay events in the country. Beta takes pride in helping the fight against Cancer by participating in the events and raising money alongside the thousands of other students and organizations.
